Data Methodology

How we source our HSN, GST & import-duty data

The HSN Code Finder is built entirely from official Indian government data — no estimates, no scraping of third-party sites. Here is exactly what we use and how the numbers are produced.

How the import-duty stack is computed

Every per-code page shows the effective duty on an assessable value (CIF) of ₹100, applied in the order Indian Customs uses:

  1. BCD — Basic Customs Duty, the headline rate from the First Schedule, charged on the assessable value.
  2. AIDC — Agriculture Infrastructure & Development Cess, charged on the BCD.
  3. SWS — Social Welfare Surcharge, charged on (BCD + AIDC).
  4. IGST — Integrated GST, charged on (CIF + BCD + AIDC + SWS).
  5. Compensation Cess — where applicable, on top of IGST for select goods.
  6. Total effective duty — the sum of the above, shown as a percentage of the ₹100 CIF value.

The GST/IGST rate shown is the base rate for the heading; the exact rate can vary with a product’s composition, form or end use under the relevant rate notifications.

How often it’s updated

The tariff schedule is refreshed against the current CBIC edition (presently Indian Customs Tariff — First Schedule (as on 30.06.2025, CBIC)) and re-reviewed with each Union Budget and any interim rate notification. Every page carries a “Last reviewed” date so you can see the edition it reflects.

Accuracy & limitations

This tool is a free reference, not legal or tax advice. Rates and classifications can change through CBIC/DGFT notifications between reviews, and the correct code for a specific consignment depends on its exact description and end use. Always verify against the latest official notification before filing a Bill of Entry.
